Withdrawing Pokies from Tasmania’s Pubs and Clubs

The Anglican Diocese of Tasmania was delighted to hear of the Labor Party’s commitment
to the withdrawal of Pokies from Clubs and Pubs in Tasmania by 2023.

The Anglican Bishop of Tasmania, The Right Revd Dr Richard Condie, commends the
political courage of the Labour Party and urges the Hodgman Liberal Government to
make a similar commitment for the welfare of vulnerable Tasmanians.

Bishop Condie said “We should have real concerns for our economy if it is dependent on
exploiting vulnerable people through instruments of addiction”.

“The policy of helping pubs and clubs transition to more life-giving business models is
commendable”.
