The following Motion on Redress was passed at the 53rd Synod of the Anglican Diocese of Tasmania on 1 June 2018.
REDRESS
It was MOVED (by Revd Noel Bowditch/Mrs Joan Harvey) that this
Synod:
- acknowledges the deep pain of those who have experienced
sexual abuse within the Anglican Church in Tasmania; - unreservedly apologises to the survivors of this abuse for the
suffering they have experienced within our parishes, schools,
agencies and organisations; - acknowledges its moral and financial responsibility to make
redress payments to those affected; - encourages individuals to contribute towards the cost of making
redress payments; - calls upon those who were the perpetrators of this sexual abuse
and any former leaders who are found to have failed to protect
the vulnerable to contribute substantially towards the cost of
making redress payments. And - requests that copies of this motion be forwarded to perpetrators
and any leaders who are found to have failed to protect
vulnerable people.
