Hutchins School Chaplain
COME JOIN US!
The Hutchins School, established in 1846, is an Anglican Pre-Kindergarten to Year 12 day and boarding school in Hobart, Tasmania. We are an Anglican school whose supportive learning community works together to nurture humility, kindness, courage and respect.
This is a significant leadership position at the heart of The Hutchins School community. The School Chaplain leads and shapes the Christian life of the School within the Anglican tradition, while contributing broadly to its academic, pastoral and co-curricular programs.
The role extends well beyond leading worship. The School Chaplain is an educator, pastor and community leader who works closely with the Principal and school leaders to support the holistic development of students. Faith at Hutchins is expressed through chapel, assemblies, classrooms, Religious Education, pastoral care programs, service-learning initiatives, co-curricular activities and staff formation. The Chaplain plays a central role in ensuring these experiences are purposeful, inclusive and developmentally appropriate.
The School Chaplain provides visible leadership in student wellbeing, teaches Religious Education and other classes as required and fosters a culture of service, reflection and thoughtful engagement with contemporary issues. The role includes supervision of the Assistant Chaplain (Kindergarten to Year 8), active engagement with the boarding community and partnership with families, alumni and the wider Anglican and Tasmanian community.
Above all, the School Chaplain is a consistent and trusted presence in School life — guiding, supporting and inspiring students and staff to flourish academically, socially, emotionally.
